Myriam Shares Her Ruby Trip Experience

I would like to share a little bit about the Nu Skin Ruby Trip that my husband and I had the pleasure to be part of recently. 
Firstly, even though we had some idea of what a free trip is, ladies and gentlemen we had NO IDEA what a Nu Skin Free Trip is. We were spoilt!

We were met at the airport & jumped into a luxury SUV. When we arrived at the resort, we were welcomed personally with goody bags. For each of us we got: a bag with gloves, beanie, jacket, a Nu Skin scarf, and unbelievably US$ 75 dollars to make up for the excess luggage that we will have at the end of the trip... yes! yes!...

So we spent 4 nights and 5 days and EVERYDAY we were given presents to fill up our suitcases. By the way, when you qualify Ruby, follow Donna’s advice, "go with an empty suitcase" I should have listened but instead ended up having to buy an extra suitcase at the fabulous SHOPPING DAY at the Park City Outlet Mall! Guys that day I just tested my husband’s patience... and you know what? My husband IS the PERFECT HUSBAND! No Complaints at ALL!!! (Well, he better not complain, its thanks to me that he got on the trip! ha ha ha!!)

BUT honestly, because i am on the subject of "husbands", please ensure you take your spouse/partner with you on your Ruby Trip, because, it wasn't the snowmobiling, or the 4 hours spa that made him realise what we really have with this business.  It was meeting the corporate staff, meeting the other Ruby Executives and the examples of revenue from some successful distributors shown during the conference that made him realised that, YES, "my wife who's looks after our 2 girls, does housekeeping (nah not really!!) and cooks some fabulous meals (that at least is true) is actually building an international business with huge potential.”  I swear ladies, you will have tears in your eyes when your man stands up in front of the other distributors with a microphone in his hands and says :"it is my wife who's doing the business and TODAY I understood that when, in the future, she asks for me to come home early because she has to go to a Business Meetings, or to a 3 full day training, or to a convention at the other end of the globe, I will support her 120%" ...  oh dear, don't forget your waterproof mascara! 

The first meeting with the others Ruby Executives was during our first Gala night.
There  you realised that you have NOTHING in common with them except a small tiny detail called "PASSION" to reach your personal objectives/goals. We all talk the same language, which is "FREEDOM OF CHOICE". And we realised that even though you can be from a small rock in the Pacific Ocean (Tahiti), or from Vancouver, or lost in the State of California, we all went through the same door to reach Ruby Level.
Meaning:

  • We all attended a Business Opportunity Meeting, and we all said something to the effect of.." this is a pyramid scheme" or "forget it! I will never do network marketing"
  • But then we said, "why not? what if it is true?"
  • So we invested in the Business box
  • Then got home and asked ourselves, “what the heck am I going to do with all those products?”
  • Then got our first 10 "No's" over the phone, or our friends laughed at us, or we thought we were running out of people we know as we watched our contact list shrinking after 3 months being in the business... 

But there we go, even with those ups and downs, all of us made it and hence qualified for the free trip to USA as a Ruby Executives. We all decided not to take the EXIT door, but to go through & walk the RED carpet...

There is no secret in this business, I qualified Ruby after 5 months being in the business, HOW? Simply because I let no one tell me that I can't do it!

I am not telling you that it was easy, no, no, I had to WORK (yeaaaah, yyuuuuukkk, WORK!), I had to reorganise my family life, my married life, sacrifice some sunny weekends (which is a big sacrifice, as we live in Auckland and sunny weekend are so so rare!!!), I even chose to say "NO" to happy hours with my girlfriends....all this, not because I wanted to,  but because I wanted to realise my objectives - more time with my family, a spectacular life with my husband, and being able to organise a weekend anytime at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora enjoying their fabulous Spa with my girlfriends when we feel like catching up over some margaritas! ha ha ha!!!...

NOW, I have a question for you: "Are you ready to work to get there?"

How focus and purpose allowed Tove & Trond Reach Their Goals

KAY: It is truly my pleasure and honor to interview you today.  You have been involved with Nu Skin for 10 years now.  Tell me about the first meeting that you went to.
TOVE:  I wasn’t ready for a business meeting.  I was stopping by to just say hello to a friend.  Carleric Lindstrom asked me to stay and listen, that this information could change my life.  It was a small meeting with 7 people.  John Sexsmith was the conducting the presentation and it lasted 3 ½ hours. 

KAY: What was John talking about that interested you most?
TOVE:  He was talking my language.  He was talking about a business, the old economy, the new economy, and the future.   Since I was coming from the old economy suddenly I realized that my business wasn’t going to work in the new economy.  I knew that I must listen.  I told myself that I was listening to something BIG!

KAY: What did you do after the meeting ended?
TOVE: I saw the picture of where the company is going and I had said, “I have to do this! This is genius!” I felt like I was the only person in Norway who had ever discovered a business like this.  After I signed the contract I bought 10 packages that each contained a blue bag and 18 products. 

KAY:  So you bought 10 packages because you wanted to sponsor 10 other people?
TOVE: Yes!

KAY:  What were your immediate goals?
TOVE: I wanted to work just 4 hours per week.  I told Carleric and John that in my life I had only 4 hours left in the week.  Can I do this business?  Do I have to sell product?  They told me, “No, you do not have to sell product and yes, you can do this business in just 4 hours per week if you focus on what the work is.   And go out and sponsor others who want to make money.”

KAY:  That is very good advice.  How quickly did you receive your 10 kits?
TOVE:  It took about 1-2 weeks to receive the kits.

KAY: Did you wait until you receive the kits to start talking about the business.
TOVE: When I arrived at John’s meeting I only had 10 minutes and I had to reschedule an appointment so that I could stay.  I met with my appointment about four hours later and I told them about this fantastic business and they signed up as well!  They signed up with 10 kits also!

KAY: People will do what you do and not what you say.  You made a commitment with 10 kits and you shared that vision with a new person who then also signed up with 10 kits.  From there what happened?
TOVE: I started to talk with people every day. The issue was that I was on my own.  Carleric was living in Brussels and John was living in Florida.  But they made a promise that they would help us and would alternate coming every month.   We started to build a group of people who wanted to make money and grew the business successfully with their help.  

KAY: You signed your Nu Skin contract on November 20, 1999 and it took you four months to qualify as an executive.  You were the first person to become a Blue Diamond in your 5th month.   Is this correct?
TOVE:  Yes, because I misunderstood the compensation plan!  I thought that I had to find a team with 12 people during the first four months and I did! 

KAY:  What was your first check as an Executive?
TOVE:  About $15,000 USD and about $19,000 USD  the next month and I was qualified as a Blue Diamond.

toveKAY:  After reaching your first goal and you were qualifying Blue Diamond, what was your next goal?
TOVE:  I was a single mom with a five year old son.  I was working so much with my shoe company and travelling up to 200 days per year and all I wanted was to be a full time mother.  So, my next goal was to be a full time to mother and I needed $17,000 USD a month to do this.  I saw how Carleric & Ingela and John & Giselle were living their life and that was really inspiring.  And then I met Trond through the business in 2001.
TROND:  Yes, I met her at a meeting and then we had several meetings, not so much about the business! (laughs)

KAY: You were an Executive on Tove’s fourth level and then you started dating.  How do you become involved in the business together?
TROND:  We didn’t plan this because I came into the business first and then we started to date.  Very soon we developed a relationship and sit down and decide how to work the business together.

KAY: What happened once you became partners in business?
TROND:  We sat down and discussed how we would work together and we started to develop new goals together like a family. 

KAY:  You had those goals in writing?
TROND:  Absolutely.

KAY:  And did your son know about your goals?
TOVE:  He knows about the goals because in the beginning I had to ask to get a few hours a week from him to do this and my promise was after two years I would be a mom full time. 

KAY: How has this business affected your son and his view on life?
TOVE:  After 2 years I gave my shoe agency to another colleague and we went full time (with Nu Skin) and that meant that I could be home with him when he came home from school.  I kept my promise to me and kept it.   My goal was to be a mother.  That was the actually the only goal.  He was 5 when I started and he was 7 when I was full-time mother.  He has travelled with us and been on all the Team Elite trips.  He really loves Nu Skin.

KAY:  I just found out you have reached an income of $125,700 USD for October.  Congratulations!  That is incredibly wonderful.  Was this the first time you reached this financial goal?
TOVE: This was the highest check we have had.  But this is just the beginning!

KAY:  What are your goals now?
TROND:  When we were making $30,000 USD per month John Sexsmith said to us (in a fun way) $100,000 is minimum wage.   Now that we have reached it we had decided that $1,000,000 USD per month is minimum wage!  This is our goal in the next 3 years!

KAY:  Excellent!  I will be here to interview for that too!  Let’s talk a little bit about the process that got you here. 
TOVE:  When we began the business it was the compensation plan that drove us.  Because we saw huge possibilities with it.  John and Giselle always said, “Focus on LOI, focus on the compensation plan.  Product will come, product will go, product will change, but the comp plan will never change.”  Nu Skin gives us very interesting products and it is easy to get distracted.  But every time we saw a challenge come and found ourselves not focused we would always call John and Giselle and they would always get us back on track.  We couldn’t have made it without them as mentors and coaches.  They were always there.  We always felt we were on their team.  They knew our goal and even when we got distracted they would bring us back to focus.  We could never, never made it without them.

KAY: Is there one thing out of all of these years that kept you focused and in the business?
TOVE:  Focusing on our goals and never, never left sight of them.  Quitting was never an option.  We had some challenges, we would get distracted but John & Giselle would always get us focused again.
trondTROND:  I wasn’t used to setting goals in the beginning but Tove was very goal oriented.  So, I learned a lot from her.  And I learned a lot from John & Giselle and staying with people who were setting goals and the importance of being around people who were inspiring and not being around people who were are not inspiring me.  This was really important.

KAY:  Is there anything else that you would like to add?
TOVE:  I am very grateful that Nu Skin exists.  They have a great product, they have a great comp plan and we have people around us that inspire us. Including you Kay!  You have inspired us so many times.  And when we see the ageLOC story, we can’t sleep anymore!  The ageLOC story and where Nu Skin is going, Nu Skin is the best gift ever!  I feel like Santa Claus 24 hours a day!   I am very happy to be part of this story.

Do the new ageLOC products work?

We are all excited about the science behind ageLOC but the real question is, "Does it really work?" Blue Diamond Janice Aruta interviewed Team Elite John Sexsmith on his personal experience with the ageLOC products.

Janice: What was your first impression - how did ageLOC products feel on your skin?
John: for me, it was invigorating- fresh,like coming out of salt water on a sunny day- very nice feeling- a sunny day skin glow

Janice: What differences did you (and others) see and how long did it take to notice the change?

Congratulations Craig Bailey & Dixie Sounness

 We would like to congratulate Craig Bailey and Dixie Sounness who have just qualified as Team Elite Executives for the 3rd time. Craig and Dixie will be joining other Team Elite Executives from around the world for the Team Elite Trip on an exclusive Baltic Sea cruise on board the Regent Seven Seas Voyager.

Husband and wife team, Craig Bailey and Dixie Sounness had been running their Structural Engineering consultancy for a number of years when they were invited by their financial advisor, Peter Anderson, to attend a Nu Skin Enterprises business meeting. At the time, Craig was working long hours in the engineering business with very little time for family and recreational pursuits.

The Nu Skin Enterprises opportunity was presented by a very impressive business woman from Hong Kong. However, when she started talking about skin care, Craig lost interest fairly quickly. “He nearly fell asleep” says Dixie, “but he woke up when the Nu Skin Enterprises business concept was mentioned and the presenter began talking about how most people, whether they have their own businesses or are employees, trade time for money and never really get off this treadmill. The idea of being able to start working towards a LEVERAGED income, and create TRUE WEALTH, was very appealing to Craig.”

Although Dixie was initially not enthusiastic about taking on another business because she and Craig were already working long hours, she was very impressed with the quality of the Nu Skin products, and agreed to trial them. Friends began to comment on how good she was looking, and she began recommending the products. “I am not a sales person.” says Dixie. “In fact I was very shy in those days, but it was easy for me to talk about products that were giving such great results! I was turning 40 at the time and really needed Nu Skin!” she recalls.

In the first three years, Craig and Dixie built the business part–time but when their Nu Skin Enterprises income surpassed their traditional income they knew it was time to sell the engineering business and move onto Nu Skin Enterprises full-time. “Our families thought we were mad, but they quickly changed their tune when they saw the success we were having,” recalls Dixie.

It wasn’t always an easy ride, however. Coming up against cynicism and negativity from people who were unfamiliar with the new network marketing industry was difficult at times, and dealing with their own fears and doubts was also personally challenging.

Over the next six years their business expanded further into several Asian countries including Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and just recently, China. They reached the Team Elite level at the end of 2002.

Craig and Dixie enjoy a highly leveraged income from over thirty countries around the world, most of which they have never visited, and have a massive and growing group of people whose lives they have indirectly touched and made better through the Nu Skin Enterprises opportunity. “We believe Nu Skin Enterprises is truly a business of the new age. I just wanted to take a moment to wish all of your Nu Skin Family around the world a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. This past year has been one of the best years of my life and I am so grateful that this business has the ability to offer the freedom to follow your dreams.

During my childhood years, my father, who was a very successful doctor earning over $1 million per year meant we had lots of things, but growing up what I really wanted was spending time with him.  Never once did he have time to take me to the movies.  I am so grateful for this business as I am able to provide for my family, but also I have had time to spend with them as well. 

This past year I have been able to spend time with my 20yr old son, Nick during our house renovation.  This wasn't just about me renovating our home, but being able to spend time with him. With the opportunities in front of us over the next 3 -5 years, many of you will success far greater than my success. 

One of the things I love most about our business is you get to help change peoples lives.  We get to change people's lives with the products, helping them look and feel better.  Some people's lives are changed earning just a few hundred dollars a week, while others a few thousands dollars a week can make a difference.  I know many of you see success as earning large amounts of money, but don't forget the little successes along the way on the way to your larger goals.

I would like to encourage you to take a few hours this holiday season and make a 5 year plan. Once you have a clear vision of where you want to be in five years, then break it down to what you need to accomplish in 2009. We will all look back at 2008/09 as the foundations years which positioned us in front of this amazing breakthrough of AgeLOC.  2009 will be a life changing year for so many of you and I am looking forward to working with each of you as we set new records for growth.
