Plan Your Work and Work Your Plan

American Football Coach, Tom Landry once said, "Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan." Once you know what it is that you truly want - you must know what it is that you are doing and why. Good intentions and warm fuzzy thoughts will get you absolutely nothing. Have you ever heard the age old training expression Plan your work and work your plan? Then you have probably also heard. Work Smart- Not Hard. Of course you have heard it over and over again. You have also been told that as a distributor that you are the owner of your Nu Skin business. Whether you decide to build your business part time or make it a career, this is your business. The better you build your business, the greater the volumes you will be able to create. Think about your time in the context of the age old slogan, "plan your work and work your plan". Every minute you spend looking for ways to avoid working your business, costs you money. Let me repeat again, I know you have heard it a hundred times at least, plan your work and work your plan. This is something I have learned in my years in the business and is the best advice you can get. Planning wasn't an option for Giselle and I, it was a necessity. With four kids and owners of multiple retail stores, Giselle and I were just like you, maxed out and at our limit when we started our Nu Skin business. We understood our Nu Skin business wouldn't succeed by chance or luck. It would only grow into a successful business with very focused actions. Every Sunday evening, Giselle and I would set aside 30 minutes to plan our week and then 20 minutes every morning planning our day. We planned our work and then worked our plan. Planning allows you to do 2 things differently. 1. TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR TIME - If you think that you have no time available, then you only have one choice, to take control of your time. Your business will not grow because you wish it to grow. Plan your time weekly and daily, commit to a schedule when you are going to work your Nu Skin business. 2. FOCUS ON THE RIGHT ACTIONS - Planning allows you to laser focus in on the essential actions that will add to the bottom line of your business. For example, if you Wednesday is fully booked, an you have one hour in your planning of your time to commit to your business that day, what actions will you decide to take with that time? Focus on actions that create volume in your business. Distributors today have many distractions that do not create volumes. There are websites, conference calls, emails, social networking, etc. It is easy to get caught up in the information and suddenly the hour you had available for productive actions that create volumes in your business is consumed. Plan your work and work your plan and do it, do it, and do it. The reality is that you MUST, I have not said that you should, but you must take some time every morning and DECIDE what you are going to do that day. And then you MUST do it. Believe me, I am not saying you need to stress yourself out, go without sleeping or in some way break your back working hard in this business. What I am saying is you need to work smart, not hard. Take effective actions that produce volumes in the time you have planned. Use a calendar, an appointment book, set a 90 day goal, and use StepTracker. I believe in working smart, not hard. My work habit is to take effective and productive actions, to make my actions work and produce volumes. What I do every morning is to determine what I am going to do today. This is a habit that I built years ago and I continue to do this today. I know my 90 day goal, I plan to complete my PV and GSV by the 15th of every month, and I use steptracker. Everyone reading this has the same opportunity in front of you. It is up to you what to do with it. My Want - My Burning Desire – My Goal

My want - my goal- my desire - burning desire. That was all I had when I committed to make my Nu Skin business work. That was enough to drive me to say and do enough of the right things, to sponsor with volume and create executives. Yes, of course there is more to it however most of success comes from your desire, your goal. My experience is that 98% of success is knowing why you are doing something and knowing what it is that you truly want. The reality of accomplishing anything is in the want - No one will do the work to go Blue Diamond without wanting. But not just casually wanting something but wanting something with intensity. The more you want the more you drive yourself to do what is necessary to create executives. When I started my Nu Skin business my want was clear. I had a burning desire to provide for my family. Perhaps the reason I am a successful Team Elite is that there really isn't anything much more important than providing for your family. To want doesn't mean that that you have to live through some horrific personal, financial, or physical or emotional adversity to be motivated enough to become successful but you have to want something. And you have to know what it is. Once you know what you want your actions have more meaning. You begin to see every move you make as a way of getting whatever it is you want. I have always wanted a lot of things. I always knew what they were and I made sure that every action that I took, every word that I say would move me one step closer to fulfilling that want. When I signed my Nu Skin distributor agreement, I did not know anything about the business of network marketing. What I did know was what I wanted and I understood clearly that when I signed up people with volume, that I would be one step closer to having what I wanted. I knew with absolute certainty I would get those things that I wanted. I recognized at the same moment, I was introducing a business to others that gave them the opportunity to get what they wanted. This made the actions I was taking even simpler. I did it. I signed up 12 people in my first week in the business, submitted my LOI, qualified as an executive and went on to earn over $20 million. Of course there were many challenges and adversity’s along the way. If there weren’t then everyone would be Team Elite! It doesn’t matter if you enroll 12 people in your first week or 1 person. What matters is that you understand why you are building your business. That you understand every action, every thought allow you to move closer to your wants. Combine your burning desire with perseverance, and persistence and magic can happen. If you haven’t taken the time yet to really think about what you want, spend some time today. Your want should evoke a STRONG emotion. The more descriptive and detailed your want is the more emotion it will evoke. Saying it to yourself isn’t enough. Write it down, and re-write it. Read it everyday. Does it evoke the same emotion as it did the day before? If not, why? Is it a certain word or sentence? If so, change it. When you know your wants, you will have most of what you need to be a success! Stay tuned because in my next blog you will read more of the story.

What Will You Do With Your Next 24 Hours?

As the psychologist Abraham Maslow once wrote, “The story of the human race is the story of men and women selling themselves short.” The average person tends to settle for far less than he’s capable of and then wonders why he’s so dissatisfied and frustrated with his life. So in light of Maslov's observation. WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR NEXT 24 hours?
Giselle and I had a fantastic, productive and inspiring 3 plus weeks in Europe. We had a fabulous 3 day training event in the south of Spain....we spent time in historically rich cities such as Ronda, Sevilla, Granada and Marbella...We had two of our 5 kids with us, Jonathan and Gian which is one of the amazing benefits of our business, being able to travel, play and work together. We arrived back to the USA and It was a privilege to get on the GPN Thursday Coaching Call last Thursday. You can listen to it here if you missed it. Giselle and I are very excited and energized with the new breakthroughs Nu Skin has made with ageLOC. As I have often said, ageLOC is much more that an incremental increase in skin care, nutrition, anti oxidents, etc. AgeLOC in my opinion, is a quantum leap forward. It is an entirely new class of products and is creating an amazing opportunity. Let us be clear, excitement, enthusiasm along with action creates success! Your Nu Skin business as with any business has requirements. One observation I have made over the last few decades is that month after month, the majority of monthly activity happens during the last week of the month. There are exceptions and the exceptions are the people who understand and act as entrepreneurs. The majority of people do not feel a sense of urgency until the last week of the month, and in the last 3 days a real sense of urgency kicks in and most of the volumes are created in the last few days only to make minimum requirements. And the cycle continues month after month. Sound familiar? This pattern of behavior is not financially intelligent is it? So, what will you do with your next 24 hours? Before you answer this question you need to know where your business is going. Throughout my life I have intentionally studied successful traits and habits of people who have created success. IBM founder Tom Watson is a phenomenal example of a success. When interviewed Watson attributes the success of IBM to three special reasons. Watson had a very clear picture of what the company would look like when it was finally done. He had a model in his mind of what it would look like when his vision was in place. Once Watson had this vision, he then asked himself how a company which looked like this would have to act when it was finally done. Once Watson had a vision of what IBM would look like and how such a company would have to act he then realized that IBM would have to begin acting that way from the very beginning or else they would never get there. Tom Watson realized for IBM to become a great company it would have to act like a great company immediately. Each day that followed, Watson and his team modeled the company after his vision. At the end of each day, they would ask themselves how well they did, discovered the disparity between where they were and where they had committed to be, and, at the start of the following day, set out to make up for the difference. Their next 24 hours were crucial to their success! When I read this about Tom Watson it rang very true to me because this was how Giselle and I built our business. We had a very clear vision of what our business and life would look like. And from the beginning Giselle and I acted as successful entrepreneurs and owners of a growing business. At the end of each and every day we would ask ourselves “What did we do for the bottom line of our business today?” When we were on track we celebrated! And when there was a disparity we set out to make up the difference in the next 24 hours. WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR NEXT 24 HOURS? The next 24 hours are the most important hours of your life and tomorrow the next 24 hours will be the most important hours of your life. You will prioritize and have a sense of urgency when you have a clear picture and vision of your business. Act as a successful business owner starting today! Do something for the bottom line of your business in the next 24 hours and make it your priority. Now, let me ask you… Are you absolutely clear on what you want? Have you made the choice to make your dreams and goals come true? What are you going to do with your next 24 hours?

Updates from Team Elite Trip

Hi from beautiful Hawaii. The first morning of the TE event is done. Blake Roney spoke first- He highlighted attitude, positiveness and fun. The company has a history of innovation, the first one was the concept of all of the good, none of the bad, the second innovation was the comp plan that rewards hard work and commitment. The last 25 years is the foundation for the next 25 years. Blake called the last 25 years NuSkin 1.0 the next 25 years is NuSkin 2.0 NuSin 2.0 has the benefits of the first 25 years of innovation and success. Today ageLOC will take the anti aging world by storm. Truman Hunt spoke next- he highlighted record revenues in the face of one of the worst economic trauma since the depression. The commission pay out to distributors in 2009 was US$551 million and grew slightly higher than the sales rate of growth- this record payout is due to the comp plan change, the wealth maximizer. AgeLOC sales are estimated to be 150 million in the first year and ageLOC will dwarf any other NuSkin product in history of the company. There is one new person in the millionaire circle every 6 days. NuSkin is creating an entirely new class of products in antiaging- in the past there has been new classes of products such as anti oxidants, nutraceuticals, cosmeceuticals, and today NuSkin has created a new class of products. We have also travelled for Team Elite trips to Mexico, Australia, Monaco, Caribbean, Fiji, Cruise to Alaska, the Baltic Sea, and the Mediterranean. 10 Ways to Maximize December

There are 10 days left in 2009 which gives us lots of time to finish December with a bang! Never has there been such an exciting time to be involved with Nu Skin and 2010 is looking even more promising. I joined Nu Skin for three reasons. 1. to make money, 2. to make money, 3. to make money. So, when Giselle and I recently listened to a presentation about upcoming compensation plan changes we got very excited. In January leaders will be introduced to a compensation plan maximizer that will make commissions keep pace with inflation. This upcoming change is very positive and will benefit everyone in the long term. Another thing we learned about in the presentation is that some changes will be made to ageLOC transformations. Nu Skin will extend the amount of the ageLOC Serum by 3 to 5 days. ageLOC Radiant Day will be repackaged in a larger container with an airless pump so that the last of it will be easier to dispense. ageLOC inventory is still a concern for Nu Skin. January forecasts for ageLOC have already been increased 5 times. There are 5 factories producing ageLOC and with supply chain squeezes there may not be enough inventory to meet demand. (U.S. Market – See December promotions on how you can purchase 2 ageLOC Transformation this month while supplies last.) 2009 has been a record year for Nu Skin and we look forward to an even more prosperous 2010. Take advantage of these last days of 2009. Here are 10 simple things that you can do to finish 2009 with a bang! 1. Be Accountable and Plan - A busier schedule is an even bigger reason to set clear targets over the next 2 weeks. Continue setting weekly and daily targets through end of year. Set an example for your group, work intensely, support your people, and have fun. Set examples of integrity and work ethic that your group can duplicate, you know what they will!! 2. Take full advantage of December promotions. Click here for US Promotions. 3. Keep Prospecting! Recognize that sponsoring is not a one shot all or nothing situation. Sponsoring is a process. Your goal especially in the holidays is not to sign up or sell products to someone but to give enough information so they can make the best decision for themselves. Remember our business is not about convincing people or changing their beliefs, but it is about finding the people who are open to what you are offering. Do not think something like "who can I get into NuSkin", but rather think "who would I like to offer this opportunity to you" 4. Meet New People Everyday - Go out each day with the intention of meeting 2 new friends and as you do this collect business cards, phone numbers, emails, etc. Do something to keep track like start your day with two big coins in one pocket. When you meet one person, transfer it to your other pocket. At the end of your day add the new names to your prospecting list. Here are some natural questions to get the conversation started: a. Are you from around here? b. How did you get from ____ to here? c. What kind of work do you do? d. How is that business doing in this economy? e. What is the toughest part of your business/job? What do you like most about what you do? f. Are you married? Have a family? g. What do you do for fun around here? Get people talking about their favorite subject, themselves! The point is to make a friend. 5. Schedule Appointments – Assume that people will have time for a meeting that is in their best financial interest. You will find that people are more available because of vacation days, etc. The days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve are a very productive time. Book Meetings for yourself with new people but also book meetings with your newest front line distributors. Your first responsibility in the business is to become successful yourself, you must become successful first. Your second responsibility is to build success under your distributors - book 5 presentations for your new front line distributor, go to their homes to do the presentation for their prospects 6. Download and Listen to at least 3 conference calls - I have determined after 24 years in this industry that successful leaders have the following in common- they all have a passion for learning, self development and personal growth. -anyone can duplicate these traits so Download and Listen to 3 conference calls before end of year. The Hamster That Saved Christmas

We want to wish you all a merry Christmas and fantastic Holiday fun! We are celebrating the Holidays in the Rocky Mountains of Utah. It’s a beautiful time of the year, lots of snow, Christmas lights and smell of Giselle's wonderful food! Before arriving in Utah, Giselle and I spent a few days in New York City to soak in the Christmas experience there. I have to admit that I enjoy being caught up in the frantic, festive shopping and seeing which toy becomes the craze. Every Christmas there always seems to be that one item hot gift. We have seen them before, The Tickle Me Elmo, Teddy Ruxpin, Playstation 3 and Rockband. This year it's something called the Zhu Zhu pet! Yes, the Zhu Zhu pet!!! A Zhu Zhu pet is a cute, interactive, electronic stuffed animal hamster made for children ages 3 and up. We were having dinner at a terrific restaurant in New York City late one night with our good friend Sherry and she mentioned that she was looking for the hard to find zhu zhu pet. After dinner we headed to Toys R Us and by pure luck they had these pretend hamsters. But there were 2 conditions. Only one person and we had to stand in a very long line. Sherry got her zhu zhu pet and we bought a set for our granddaughters, Emma and Ellie. So, how the heck did this silly toy become the “it” present of the Christmas season? I don’t think anyone knows the exact answer to that. But personally I believe that clever marketing definitely gave them an edge. In addition to traditional advertising the company launched an interesting campaign that included many public relation events including sponsoring 300 in-home hamster parties where “influential mommy bloggers” could invite people over and experience these scampering little hamsters. Guests could touch and feel these pets but most importantly they could go home and start talking about them. For Nu Skin distributors this strategy seems obvious. This is exactly how Giselle and I started our Nu Skin business. In home get togethers, personal interaction over a cup of coffee where people could touch and feel the potential of the Nu Skin business. The power of Word of Mouth advertising plays a mighty role in any business. It's interesting to see a huge corporation implementing what may be deemed as an MLM strategy to turn their business into a mega-sensation of the holiday season.

There is an old and bitingly truthful Chinese proverb that says: "Man who sits with open mouth waits long time for roast goose to fly in." If we want the good things in life the only way to obtain those good things is to get busy and go after them! One of the truly best things in live is peace of mind. Unfortunately few get to enjoy it. There is no more comforting thought in the world than the complete certainty that when we grow too old to work, or we decide that we do not want to work, we can relax and enjoy a steady month income that is recession proof, inflation proof, and for sure, to last as long as we do. Just ponder that concept for a moment. The comfort that when you choose to relax, enjoy, not work, and spend your time in leisurely independence that you will be able to do so- without fail. If you could have that positive assurance now, wouldn't it remove those aggravating worries that go through your mind every time you think of doing something that is a financial splurge with your current income? With the future safe, the present is far more pleasant to enjoy. But unless you do something about your years ahead, you will be very much like the person who "sits with open mouth waiting for roast goose to fly in" It was November 1985 right before the Thanksgiving holiday I was approached by a good friend of mine about Nu Skin. After understanding the concept of leverage, I felt that I had found the perfect business and it was fun for me to find the people that belonged in the business. I didn't delay. I started immediately regardless of the holidays and sponsored 12 friends, these were people that I liked and cared for. In 1985 through to 1988 the company had a 4 month qualification program that could not be accelerated. The volume results in my last month of qualification was approximately 70,000 dollars/points. The volumes were created because I choose to work through the Thanksgiving holiday as well as the Christmas holidays. By the way, we were raising 4 young children, working our traditional business, and only knew about Nutriol.... We cannot put off the business of getting started on our program of personal independence. The longer we delay our start, the harder the task will be. Don’t wait for it to happen to you. Create it for yourself. Decide to do something today and move forward towards your goals.

Eye of the Tiger

"Do you know what I consider the secret of successful accomplishment?" A prominent business person once asked me this question. The businessman answered himself with, “It is the singleness of purpose." Since then I have thought about this answer a good many times. It is almost a certainty that individuals of average intelligence can accomplish just about what they set out to accomplish, if they will concentrate all their efforts on that one THING and stick to it, working for it, and believing in it. If there is one thing in your business that you particularly want to accomplish, one pin level or income level you are anxious to achieve, and you concentrate on that one and persist, you will almost inevitably achieve that purpose. Successful business executives have been aptly described as people with "the eye of a tiger", focused and fearless. They evaluate themselves and others by a simple single standard. Results! Everything important to business must be planned. Successful people strike a balance and differentiate between business and personal and take time to plan their activities. Anything worthwhile deserves to be planned before it is done. Planning requires thought about your purpose and how to accomplish results. Knowing exactly what you mean to accomplish is the first step in planning in your business and your personal life. Unfortunately, there are people in business who are "too busy" to do an intelligent planning of their time and do the business "when they can". These people are like grasshoppers, good on distance but poor on direction. I recently read a historical novel that was set in Spain in World War II and I found one paragraph particularly applicable to the concept of having "the eye of the tiger", focused and fearless. A veteran from the first war, on one of the rare occasions he spoke to soldiers of the past, said that in a war every sense had to be tuned to survival. He said… "You didn't see, you watched, as an animal watches. You didn't hear, you listened, as an animal listens. You became as focused and heartless as an animal. Every sense was fine tuned to survival." Successful accomplishment requires every sense to be fine tuned to success, in other words, a singleness of purpose measured by results. Entrepreneurs don't see, they watch, they don't hear, they listen and they are focused on a single purpose and with "the eye of a tiger, and they are fearless and focused when it comes to results. They evaluate themselves by a single simple standard - RESULTS. The singleness of purpose is the secret of successful accomplishment in business. In other words, "the eye of the tiger"

Have you ever heard the expression "He is not worth his salt." The word "salary" was derived from the Latin word, "salarium". At one time soldiers in ancient Rome were paid, in part, with a ration of salt called a solarium, from the Latin word sal (which means salt). If a soldier's performance was not up to standard, that soldier was said to be "not worth his salt." Well, Team Elites and GPN Members Tove Kirkeng and Trond Austgarden are worth their salt!!! In fact, in their Nu Skin business, they have just received their monthly ration, $125,700.00 USD ounces of salt! That is a bit above minimum wage! Very well done Tove and Trond!!!!
